Take One Above the Line Series #1 Karen Kingsbury 0025986266165 Books
Take One is the first of a new series by Kingsbury. We're introduced to a couple missionaries, Chase and Keith, who have returned from Indonesia to produce a movie. It is to have a strong Christian message and yet appeal to a wide audience. Their idea and plan are sound, but their limited budget threatens to end their film-making careers before they can get started. The book's main theme is the struggle to complete the filming amid show-stopping obstacles.I found the beginning to be a bit slow as I tried to get into the new characters. As soon as the book started focusing on Bailey Flannigan and her relationships with Tim and Cody (from the Sunrise Series), I found it very engaging. This series will bring new stories and people while continuing the Baxter saga.
Of all Kingsbury's novels, the Baxter stories are the most popular, and with good reason. This author develops multi-dimensional characters who practically live in the minds and hearts of readers. While one could start with Take One, I recommend reading the entire saga for maximum enjoyment. It teaches how a family should care about one another and live in Christ. I'll list the entire line of books below, in order, because it's hard to figure out the right order by looking through Amazon.
1. Redemption 2. Remember 3. Return 4. Rejoice 5. Reunion 6. Fame 7. Forgiven 8. Found 9. Family 10. Forever 11. Sunrise 12. Summer 13. Someday 14. Sunset 15. Take One 16. Take Two (available for pre-order as I write this).
If this number of books seems daunting, don't worry. You'll love each one so much that you'll soar through them. These are my favorites of all the series' in the Christian Fiction genre. I wish I had them all to read for the first time still ahead of me!

Take One Above the Line Series #1 Karen Kingsbury 0025986266165 Books Reviews
In Take One, we are introduced to the two missionaries turned producers who have a dream of making a difference in Hollywood. This book includes some of the characters from Kingsbury's Baxter family and I do love how they are woven into the story.
What I love about this series (and I've now finished all four books) is the story line of being able to do something in life that really matters, that makes a difference to others, and yet doesn't change who you are. In the world of Hollywood, that can no doubt be a challenge.
I also like the way the author deals with real life happening to Christians. It's just not sugar-coated. And yes, while faith often wins in the end, she doesn't deny that there are struggles along the way.
I'm a Kingsbury fan and love her work.
I like Karen Kingsbury as an author so I knew I would like this series. The book has good characters and a great plot that is so true to today's living. After reading this book, I couldn't wait to get book 2 of the series to see how the story line continues.
Take One by Karen Kingsbury (Zondervan) is the story of Keith Ellison and Chase Ryan, missionaries who have developed a movie script they believe will significantly impact the world by offering a message of hope and forgiveness. The two men and their families are confident they can produce a high quality, independent film. The central story-line centers around a critical miracle needed to get the financing to finish the project and doing it without sacrificing integrity. There are subordinate story lines in the text, and Above the Line Take One readers should be prepared to be left hanging in some instances. In Above the Line Take One, Kingsbury casts light on the challenges Christians face in living above the line with integrity. Kingsbury addresses topics such as jealousy between friends, temptation in the young adult community, and the dangers that accompany celebrity and accessibility. Kingsbury's writing in Above the Line Take One is easy to follow, and her voice leaves you feeling as if you've just had a conversation with an old friend.
Love this author and all of the characters she writes. The stories are always relatable. Take One is the first in a series. It can stand alone as a story line about two former missionaries who decide to make movies that honor God. There are lots of struggles along the way that are very realistic and in the end only a miracle can save the project. Also in the story are characters from former Baster series, so having read those series first makes it like a homecoming of sorts. Only problem with Kingsbury books is when you finish them you feel like you have lost touch with some of your best friends. That is how real her characters are. And that is why fans keep begging for more!
I have read a handful of Karen Kingsbury books and have enjoyed each of them. So I was looking forward to reading the first book in a series. Unfortunately, I won't be looking for the next one.
To be fair, I have not read the Baxter series, so these characters were new to me. However, since this is a new series, I assumed the book would be written in a way that made me care about the characters. That just never happened. By the final page, I just never connected with them.
There were multiple sections that read like a Young Adult book. Yes, it's a 'clean' story, but the storylines were simple and flat. I just couldn't find anything intriguing that made me want to keep turning the pages. <Potential Spoilers ahead> It almost seemed like she was trying to set the stage for too many storylines in the future; by spending time on new college life, a young triangular romance, parents worried about their child, the making of a movie, a young woman questioning her faith, and a marriage in crisis, everything got short-changed.
I read the whole book, and it wasn't horrible. But it wasn't enough to make me want more.
I enjoy all of this author's books and stories. She has a wonderful talent for creating not only an interesting story of the characters' lives, but also shows their dedication to their beliefs in God and His daily involvement in their lives. It is wonderful how she weaves the whole family and all the characters into her overall intent, and shows the characters being very devoted to their beliefs in God as well as being very comfortable sharing these with others in the book.
