Love Food and Live Well by Chantel Hobbs is a book about weight loss and fitness through food that tastes good.

Rather than dieting by deprivation, Hobbs describes a change in lifestyle by changing the thought processes about food, particularly what causes people to obsess and overeat even though they might not even be physically hungry for what they are eating. She also discusses making mealtimes meaningful rather than a rushed or stressful experience.

Hobbs teaches a method of self discipline and making choices to nourish the body and still enjoy food, without any drastic dietary changes or elimination of particular food groups.

The book contains recipes, food plans and ideas for exercise routines.

I think this book is somewhat lacking in recipes and is more geared to singles or empty nesters as opposed to parents who are pressed for time and feeding family members of various ages and levels of pickiness like we do at our household. However, there are still some good takeaways from this book.

The author, Chantel Hobbs, reminds us that "loving food is not a sin... The problems arise when we take something that's good and allow its pleasure to become so addictive that we stop practicing self-control and regular restraint."

The author provides plenty of motivation and instruction for successfully meeting our weight goals. Within the pages of her book, you'll find

* The need to give our control over to God - I believe that's why I'm failing in my own efforts -- I'm not allowing God's involvement, nor is His control in my weight loss efforts (and other areas of my life).
* The importance of giving God credit in our successes. - Chantel gives God complete credit for her 200-pound loss.
* How tempting carbs, protein power, and fat play a part in our weight loss efforts, as well as in our overall health.
* How to make meals more meaningful and enjoy those delicious brownies.
* Goal-planning tips - Setting goals that are realistic and doable.
* Stretches and exercises with pictures and step-by-step instructions.

I do recommend this book to anyone seeking to lose weight God's way. Yes, God does care about our physical health. However, keep in mind that he does not want us to obsess over it, as Chantel also points out in her book.

In her book Love Food & Live Well Chantel Hobbs gives us a down-to-earth and realistic way to "Lose weight, get fit and taste life at it's very best!" In this book Chantel gives a recount of her own struggle with weight and her journey from nearly 350 pounds to the lean, fit woman she is today. Her open recollection of the emotions and experiences she had while being over weight make this book an encouraging read!
Although some of the writing style and phrases used became a little repetitive as I was reading, I did feel as though I was being addressed by a real woman with real struggles and real successes. This book seems to be a combination "how-to" book and a personal conversation between the author and the world. Even though at times I had a hard time staying interested (I wanted her to just get to the point), this book is jam packed with helpful information and encouraging words.
Chantel addresses some of the bad "deals" we are sold as Americans (the Barbie Myth) and tells us about the best "deal" of all - the one that God offers us!
In the later chapters of this book, she lays out some practical, hands-on tools to assist with weight loss. Chantel passionately discusses carbs, protein and fat and the roles they play in our health and diets. She gives important tips on "how to make meals meaningful" including quick, delicious sounding recipes and delves into the "moving" and exercise portion of our lives, giving detailed directions (including pictures) on different ways to switch up the normal routine.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for a light and encouraging book that gives helpful advice about health and fitness!

Some very practical help from somebody who has been "up and down" the diet road. She helps us think about what we eat and how we eat. Very, very good book!
I love Chantel Hobbs. This is the second book I've read of hers. For my personality she writes in a very motivational way and inspires me to try harder.

I chose this book because I'm always trying to drop my extra pounds. I like Chantel Hobbs' books because she approaches weight lose so sensibly. I think any diet plan works when the person following it works with the plan. My problem is I get bored with the whole thing and fail so often. I have many of Chantel Hobbs books and reread them when I'm ready to get serious to lose my weight. She is very sincere reaching the needs of the the people she is out to reach in her books. Anyone of her books would be a good choice to purchase. She is a very encouraging couch in weight loss.
