I’m one of those SciFi fans that never got hooked on Cyber Punk, and here’s why: the tortured excuses for why the victims (there are ALWAYS victims) can’t just rip the units off their heads and get out of harm’s way always sounded phony to me. Even the screen version of Matrix failed to impress me (I had hopes). C’mon! You gotta find a telephone booth???? What is this? Superman needs to change his undies?

So, you can imagine what frame of mind I was in when I picked up Terminal Connection. What the hell, it was being offered for free and I’m cheap.

What a difference! The explanations make sense! Not only that, but the uses of the device(s) aren’t limited to a bunch of pimple-faced losers playing online games. People are effectively telecommuting using these things.

So, along comes the “bad guy” (heavy music playing in the background) and starts “offing” people — again in a manner than I can believe. And the chase starts there. It’s a romp both through cyber space as well as the real world (the characters have to actually go somewhere in person to chase after the bad guy with the strange name.

Okay, that was enough to keep me reading and the plot got nastier and more convoluted as it went along (good mystery within the “gee-whiz” stuff). And the ending blew me away! (And that’s all I’m gonna say about that, reading it is up to you and I wouldn’t want to spoil it.)

If you like cyber-punk, you’ll love this! If you like mysteries, spy stuff, and/or science fiction, you’ll at least like it.

Virtual reality stories always seem complicated but I guess that's the nature of the beast. But outside the VR, I didn't think the main character acted realistically at times. Good story.

This story was very captivating and extremely difficult to put down. I enjoyed all the twists and turns. It was fun keeping up with the different types of technology and how it was being utilised by the general public, private enterprise and (everyone's favorite) the government. I will definitely get more books by this author.
This was a 'keeps you on the edge of your seat' thriller. The book was well written and the characters were well thought out. I really liked the way the author kept you guessing at just who was the creator of the virus that is killing people using the NEXUS Corporations technology. At times you felt as if you were inside the virtual reality world right there with the characters.
The best part of this book is the conceptual thinking behind all of the imagined VR scenarios. It's creative. But it's set against a poorly crafted techno-thriller international plot and frankly, not all that well written. I nearly gave up after the first few pages, but kept going. I finished it, but only to see what the VR tech stuff might be later in the book. Poor character development, very surface-level stuff.. This is a sci-fi book, and not a great one. Highly over-rated, IMHO.
Terminal Connection is a taut, exciting thriller. I have also had the privilege of seeing this book develop from manuscript to finished novel. The original rough draft has matured into a thrilling first novel full of strong characters and believable extrapolations of present day technology and politics. The year is 2020 and virtual reality in the form of the Nexus is almost ready for release. But its inventor, Steve Donovan, knows something is wrong. There is a bug in the software that can be used to hijack the system and literally kill its user. His initial attempt to try to delay the release is foiled by a tragic accident that takes the life of his wife and cripples his daughter. While he is dealing with his personal tragedy, his unscrupulous partner rushes the Nexus into production. It quickly becomes the standard for Internet access. Then people start to die. As Steve pursues the killer he plunges deeper into a conspiracy that reaches the highest levels of government and costs him everything dear to him.
This near future science fiction at its finest. If you liked Ernest Cline's READY PLAYER ONE, then you will love TERMINAL CONNECTION.

While it is not the biggest point of this book it quite nicely describes how can world look in era of Virtual Reality.
Changes how people work, meet, how they think, what they buy. Changes in how they live (and where) how they travel.
Removing all this it is just thriller/suspense, not bad.
The main character is hmmm stupid? He is suppose to be a genius creating VR, but his actions are sometimes very dumb, and he sometimes Can't think of obvious things. Of course it allow some more action to develop, but still.
The ending is confusing, whole book he is fighting with bad guy in VR and on the end he can solve everything with simply sending his virtual dog ordering him to "get him!".
Some threads are confusing, too. For example there is chapter describing how network hubs become to disappear. The chapter describes guys who operate it, how they work, how they try to solve it. Than in mid sentence it ends. There is nothing more about it. Did they do anything? solve? We even don't know if more hubs disappear?
Polishing is something that this book needs. But over all it is a good read.
