A Midwinter Wedding A Retelling of The Frog Prince eBook Melanie Cellier

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet novella. Princess Cordelia, sixth of the seven children (three boys and four girls) of the King and Queen of Lanover, is tired of being overlooked in her crowd of siblings but isn't sure how to distinguish herself. She isn't the most beautiful, the most accomplished, the most beloved, or even the most mischievous of her brothers and sisters. She's just one of a pretty set who happen to be royalty. Being the one everyone notices last, however, has gifted her with keen powers of observation and intuition. And she very quickly surmises something is wrong when she arrives in Northelm for the wedding of her brother Rafe to Princess Marie. Whispered conversations she overhears seem sinister in nature to her, but she can't get anyone to take her seriously--not Rafe, and not Marie's handsome brother Prince William. The only one who listens to Cordelia's concerns is William's childhood friend Ferdy, whose toadlike appearance initially turns Cordelia off but she is quickly drawn to his kind heart and generosity. They discover they are kindred spirits; like Cordelia, Ferdy is often overlooked despite being a competent army officer and the son of one of Northelm's wealthiest lords. He isn't sure how to step out of the shadows--he's built a reputation as "the dependable one" who everyone is glad to have around once they get used to his unusual looks but rarely thinks of otherwise. Together he and Cordelia undertake to solve the mystery of the whispers by doing what they do best: hiding in plain sight and being extra observant. In the process, they might both find in each other what they were looking for all along. A little bit of Midwinter magic and voila! An adorable retelling of the Frog Prince.

A Midwinter Wedding A Retelling of The Frog Prince eBook Melanie Cellier Reviews

The sweetest novella from the series so far (though we hope for some in the Beyond the Four Kingdoms series!) I loved Happily Ever Afters, but this one is more solid - since it's all about one girl. Cordelia is a great and well-written character, and the Northhelmian court is very interesting to read about. Also, our favorite heroes from previous books appear here, and it's fun to meet them again!
Lanoverian princesses are really great, and there's is a pretty little insight here as to what to expect from The Princess Game! Enjoy this wonderful (and magical, of course!) Christmas story!
I love this short interlude in the Four Kingdoms world. The story maintains a strong theme on the importance of outward and inward beauty, which is truly realized at the end of the tale. Once again, Cellier creates your beautiful fairy tale princess who saves the day with her brains and her heart, never wavering in the face of doubt. It is a quick read, (under two hours hopefully), and has perhaps become my favorite from this author.
Melanie Cellier is a great young adult author. I recommended the entire series to my granddaughter and read it with her. This book is part of the Four Kingdom series and connects royalty from all the kingdoms. I appreciated reading this book and the others in the series. Even as an older adult this title was a great read and very enjoyable.
I have a complaint about this author's books. They don't come out often enough.

I am not very generous with 5 star reviews, but think I have given every one of the 4 Kingdom books 5 stars. They are fascinating re-writes of familiar (and not so familiar) fairy tales, but done so in such an intriguing way. This retelling of the Frog Prince was so very touching as Cordelia and Ferdie learned their value and discovered a nefarious plot against the royals of the 4 Kingdoms
There's so much to love about this novella, I don't know where to begin! I love how relatable the characters are. I grew up in a big family so I really identified with the main character as she learned to deal with insecurities about being overlooked and learned not to overlook others in the same way. The whole plot was fascinating and the ending was absolutely beautiful! I totally teared up at the end! There's so more I want to say but I don't want to give any spoilers if you haven't read it yet so I'll just leave it at, YOU HAVE TO READ THIS!!!!
I have read most of the 4 Kingdom books and bought the 3 books in her other 4 kingdom series. Love this author (most of the time. Now and then there is a plot hole - in another book, not this one - that 'stopped' me,)
This book is one of my favorite books of hers. Perhaps I find the novella length better for fairy tales. Some of the others seemed too long. This one was perfect and I enjoyed seeing characters from other stories again. Loved the messages of inner beauty and finding oneself. I was sorry to see it end, but fortunately, i have the last book in this series to start right now!!!
When Cordelia has the opportunity to travel to Northelm for her brother's wedding, she is thrilled! Because of the distance and the climate, she gets to stay for several weeks. As one of Arcadia's six princesses, she has always felt overshadowed by her beautiful older sisters. Now Cordelia has a chance to be noticed for herself.
While in Northelm, Cordelia becomes friends with several princesses, meets a handsome prince and his best friend, Ferdy, who looks strangely frog-like, and overheads suspicious conversations.
Everyone brushes off her concerns, except for Ferdy. I would have loved him just for that. I wanted to smack her brother and the Prince for being so patronizing! I loved the fairytale elements of magic, romance, and good overcoming evil. The political intrigue was a great addition to the story, and a wonderful way to bring Cordelia and Ferdy together.
The plot was well developed and did not feel like a novella at all. A Midwinter's Wedding is part of the Four Kingdoms series. At this point, it can be read out of order (that's just how I have happened to do it).
I would highly recommend this series to fans of fairytale retelling. If you have read the series and are looking for more fairytales, try the Timeless Fairytale series by K.M. Shea.

Content clean (no language, minor violence, a few kisses)
